HOME GROWN: Sustainability Survey

The Tourism Queensland website now includes a dedicated sustainability and climate change section (www.tq.com.au/sustainability). Sustainability can essentially be defined as the environment and your business being around for the long term, where your business is resilient and adapts well to change. In developing this area of the website, Tourism Queensland is eager to hear your thoughts on sustainability and how they could assist you in implementing sustainability initiatives (including climate change responses) in your business. Tourism Queensland is also eager to hear about the types of information and tools you would find most useful to improve your business sustainability.

To gather this information, Tourism Queensland has developed an online survey which we would encourage you to complete. The survey is designed for all operators, regardless of how involved you are in sustainability. Please follow the link below to provide your feedback and thoughts.

HOME GROWN: Classic Change

Classic Group, Club Leisure Group and Interchange Timeshare Queensland Pty Ltd have entered into agreements for the transfer of Interchange Vacation Club (IVC) and the Interchange Exchange business to the Classic Group.  Pending final due diligence, the transfer of the business will be on 27 February 2009.

Tony Ridl and Stuart Lamont [the principals of Club Leisure Group] entered into partnership with Bob Ridgway and Kellie Christie [the principals of Interchange Timeshare Queensland Pty Ltd] and set up the highly successful IVC in 2000.

Classic Group is the largest privately-owned Australian timeshare management and exchange company and owns and operates brands such as Classic Holidays, Classic Holiday Club and Dial An Exchange (www.daelive.com).

The consolidation of IVC into the Classic Group will result in significant benefits to all parties and increased efficiencies for IVC.  IVC will continue to enjoy the benefits of association with other Club Leisure Clubs in South Africa, and vice versa.

Bob Ridgway and Kellie Christie, long time veterans and pioneers of the Australian timeshare and exchange industry, are looking forward to their retirement.  Their contribution to increasing competition by setting up the first independent Australian exchange company in a market dominated by large foreign companies is their greatest legacy.

The addition of IVC and Interchange Timeshare to the Classic Group will provide synergies in areas of inventory usage, member benefits, infrastructure savings and expanded staff development.

HOME GROWN: Masquerade at the villa

WORLD AROUND US: TATOC Achieving their goals

The colorful TATOC flag flew proudly from the flagpole at Diamond Resorts International resort at Pine Lakes from 21st to 23rd November. The Queen was not in residence but the presence of the flag meant the Board of TATOC, the Timeshare Association was once again holding its annual strategy meeting.

“There were so many positives that were discussed” said Harry Taylor the CEO for TATOC. “ It has been a full and tremendously busy year for TATOC but the board are committed to ensure that we make even more progress in 2009. It is not a time for complacency. We have to meet the challenges ahead and also ensure that the commitment to our members and the owners remains”

This commitment has been shown in a number of ways. The website has been upgraded and members will have access to their own page where they can receive information to assist and educate them with their responsibilities of committees. Modules have been drafted to deal with such subjects as Health and Safety to Meetings and planning. A discount card will also be available.

Membership is now open to individuals and through the past few months TATOC has been invited to attend many resorts AGM’s. “The reception has been warm and also of interest. Owners are now realising that there is an organization, which is elected and does indeed act and support the consumer.” Said Harry Taylor.
