Dick Johnson Racing team partnership a formula for success |
The Dick Johnson Racing team has partnered with Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific to drive both organisations to continued success in 2007.
The partnership will allow opportunities for timeshare owners to meet car racing legend Dick Johnson, learn about how to be a V8 driver among other experiences. |
 |
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific President and CEO Barry Robinson said the company will be one of the major sponsors of the Dick Johnson Racing team for the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship Series, with the potential for the sponsorship to be renewed.
“We are particularly excited about our continued support of the world of motorsport. Not only are there commercial benefits, but it will give our Owners the opportunity for experiences money can’t buy with a true legend in motor racing,” Mr Robinson said.
Team owner Dick Johnson is one of Australia’s most successful drivers in racing history and Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific is the largest holiday ownership business in the South Pacific.
The partnership will also involve promotional events with the Dick Johnson Race Shop and Museum in Queensland.
Dick Johnson is a five time Australian Touring Car Champion and a three time winner of the Bathurst 1000 before announcing his retirement in early 1999. He remains in charge of the Dick Johnson Racing team but his son, Steven, has taken over driving Johnson's famous Number 17. |

Official launch for first Butlin's timeshare resort |
The first timeshare resort by Butlins, the UK holiday camp operator, will receive its first guests later this month. Ceremonies marking the event - and the official launch of a brand new vacation club called BlueSkies - took place on Wednesday, 4 July.
The first phase of the development at Minehead, Somerset, in southwest England, incorporates 24 apartments. Phase Two includes the addition of a health and fitness suite. According to the company, owners will be able to enjoy an annual break for the next 30 years and benefit from savings of up to 50 per cent.
Owners will get a spacious, modern, holiday apartment near the main resort. The accommodation is located by the sea and close to the stunning scenery of Exmoor.
BlueSkies is based on a simple points system and offers flexibility and freedom. Through an affiliation agreement with RCI, owners will also have exchange options at resorts around the world.

US timeshare sales top $10 billion in 2006 |
Timeshare sales increased 16 per cent last year to $10billion over $8.6billion in 2005, according to an Ernst & Young study published by the ARDA International Foundation (AIF).
The survey of 625 resorts throughout the country shows “robust growth” over a five-year period with sales up 81 per cent and average resort size growth of 32 per cent.
As of 1 January 2007, there were 1,615 timeshare resorts in the U.S. and 4.4million owners, up from three million in 2002.
The number of timeshare units was 176,232 with 14,000 newly constructed in 2006. The study predicts continued growth with some 11,000 new units forecast this year and firm commitments for some 47,000 in 2008 and beyond.
“The steady, impressive growth in the timeshare sector is a direct indication of strong consumer satisfaction and demand, underscoring that vacation ownership is fast becoming the preferred travel choice of today and in the future,” said Howard Nusbaum, president and chief executive officer of ARDA.

Change to be made to the recently proposed PS160 – Cooling Off Periods |
As you know a cooling off period generally applies to timeshare operators with an Australian Financial Services License involved in selling interests in timeshare through a registered managed investment scheme.
The Commission has agreed in principle to changes their class order relief for those registered and licensed schemes if they are also members of ATHOC. This will allow a cooling off period of 7 days rather than 14 days which was initially to be implemented from September 30, 2007.
This decision has been made on the following basis:
- ATHOC members are currently governed by a Code of Conduct that deals with pressure selling issues. Cooling off periods also seek to mitigate against pressure selling and so an effective Code of Conduct means a shorter cooling off period may be appropriate;
- ATHOC and ASIC will work together to update the ATHOC Code of Conduct as it relates to issues around pressure selling;
- ATHOC will continue to keep complaints statistics regarding their members and monitor and enforce the Code of Conduct particularly as it relates to pressure selling;
- ASIC will have the power to exclude an ATHOC member from relying on the shorter cooling off period if it has concerns with that member's compliance with relevant laws.
We believe that this is terrific news for those that this affects and look forward to working with all of you and ASIC to ensure that this remains in place. |

Staff turnover, stability and absence rates |
Below are the formula's that can be used for determining staff turnover, stability and absence rates in the workplace. Classic Holidays are undertaking the exercise as currently there is no industry averages that we can compare to. If you are interested in being involved and supplying your statistics from this formula below it would be extremely helpful.
The formulas are as follows:
Turnover =
Number of (internal) job leavers in period x 100
divided by
the average number of employee
Stability Index =
Number of employees with over one year’s service X 100
divided by
Total number of employees one year ago
Absence Rate (Sick leave) =
Total number of hours lost X 100
divided by
Total labour hours rostered |

ATHOC Foundation |
The Australian Timeshare Industry in conjunction with Variety QLD recently launched a wheelchair swing in the Cascade Gardens on the Gold Coast. With the help of Margaret May MP Federal Member for McPherson the Foundation Patron also on hand to give it a push.
Margaret May said “the swing was a wonderful gift for the community and especially for those disabled children who had never been able to experience the freedom and joy associated with using a swing in the local park”.
|
 |
What is also terrific is that the park is currently under redesign with the swing becoming a major focal point for the children’s play area. People will see how generous the Australian Timeshare Industry is. Thanks to all of you.
