The sun had barely risen but more than 60 surfers across 16 teams had already gathered at Duranbah Beach on Australia’s Gold Coast for the annual Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific Corporate Surf Challenge this month.

Collectively the teams raised over AU$16,000 for the FSHD Global Research Foundation, an Australian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to finding a treatment and cure for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD).

More than 12 companies participated in the surfing competition fundraiser, including Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific, Hawaiian Airlines, Stellar Recruitment, Cervus Private Wealth, ICE Cruises, Multiplex Australasia, RCI, Bespoke Interior Solutions, Beniki Finance, MPD Tophats, Bistech and Surfing Life.

Joining the corporate surfers was seven-time world champion Layne Beachley AO who also serves as Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific’s company ambassador.

Members of the winning team received a custom surfboard and return flights to Hawaii were auctioned off on the day.
